How to read this table
(1) A calendar-year return is not a buy-and-hold-year return: entering on the first close versus the last close of the previous year alone can shift the result by several percentage points. (2) Maximum drawdown measures the worst pain of a buy-and-hold: the -30.2% drawdown in 2018 means anyone fully invested at that year's closing peak sat through an unrealized loss of at least that depth. (3) The gap between a 0.74% CAGR and what plain bank wealth products paid over the same window is the market's compensation for volatility — collecting it depends on actually holding through the drawdowns above.
Methodology
Data: East Money daily bars for sh000001 via its public API, 2010-01-04 through 2026-11-06 (4,089 rows), re-computed from the downloadable CSV. Annual return = last close of the year / first close of the year - 1. Intra-year max drawdown = worst peak-to-trough decline of daily closes within the calendar year. CAGR annualizes the first-to-last close over the elapsed months. Price index only: dividends are not reinvested, so total return is modestly higher.
